The AI Debates
AI continues to be one of the most discussed areas of the current technological change. According to some, all areas of our lives will be improved by AI. According to others, AI will bring mostly harm, sometimes of quite apocalyptic proportions. Meanwhile, there is very little space for public debate on what we actually need and want when it comes to new technologies. There are very few public spaces where we can ask questions and wrestle with complexities of our changing world.
This series of events brings together experts from different fields to debate with each other and the audience some of the issues in the spotlight due to AI developments.
The debates will be chaired by Timandra Harkness. Timandra Harkness is a writer, broadcaster and presenter. Her new book, Technology is Not the Problem, was published by Harper Collins in May 2024, and previous book Big Data: does size matter? by Bloomsbury Sigma in 2016. Timandra has written and presented series for BBC Radio 4, including FutureProofing, How To Disagree, Steelmanning and Political School, and documentaries such as Data, Data Everywhere, Divided Nation, What Has Sat-Nav Done To Our Brains, and Five Knots.
